Jeffrey Shafer, DVM
Dr. Jeff graduated from veterinary school in 1982. He is the only “non-Cornell” graduate at the practice, having attended Ohio State University and being a “Buckeye” through and through. (Rumor has it that he tricked Dr. Laura into having their wedding colors Scarlet and Gray so as to be a real Buckeye event! It really was a very sharp looking bridal party. J )
Dr. Jeff has a cat, Lewis, while the rest of the household claims title to four dogs and miscellaneous fish and aquatic creatures. When not at work (some say this is not very often, others say it’s definitely not often enough) he enjoys golf, working around the house, reading (favorite authors Tom Clancy and Robert Ludlum), and playing the piano. It goes without saying that he enjoys watching Ohio State athletics on TV whenever he has the opportunity.

Laura Shafer, DVM
Dr. Laura graduated from the New York State College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University in 1984. She is originally from Long Island (and still visits there a lot), but has been living the dream in the sunny southern tier since 1987. The Shafers have two daughters – Sara is attending Binghamton University and Kristen is at Vestal High School. Dr. Laura is active on the New York State Department of Education’s Board for Veterinary Medicine, and was, for some time, on the faculty advisory committee for the SUNY Delhi Veterinary Technician program. She enjoys family time, reading, crocheting, and is an avid NY Mets fan. She loves spending time at our vacation cabin in Maine, the annual beach “frog contest” (feel free to ask her about it if you care to – just don’t be in a hurry), and all things Disney.

Tracy Durham, DVM
A 1991 Cornell graduate, Dr. Tracy has been a hospital team member since graduation. Dr. Tracy enjoys working with exotic pets large and small (no tarantulas, please!) and is the long time veterinary consultant for The Binghamton Zoo at Ross Park. When not practicing veterinary medicine Dr. Tracy can be found enjoying local theater and the company of her house pigeon, Walter. Dr. Tracy’s vacation time is usually spent traveling the Northeast with her horses, Emperor and Voluntario. Feel free to ask about her bid for the Pan American Games equestrian team (but, like Dr. Laura’s frog contest story, don’t be in a hurry!).

Dyana Fichera, DVM
Dr. Dyana graduated from the New York State College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University in 2001. She is originally from Dutchess County but has been in the Finger Lakes region since 1995. Dr. Dyana shares her home with her husband, Adam, 2 sons, Jacob and Ethan, 2 boxers, Oliver and Music, and 2 cats, Pilchard and Wendy. Dr. Dyana joined the staff in 2004 and currently runs the weekend emergency clinic. In her spare time she enjoys showing her 2 boxers in conformation and breeding. “Oliver”, Champion Winland’s Diamond Talisman has earned his American championship title in conformation. “Music”, LinMar’s Carolina Concerto has almost earned her title, she needs 1 more major win to become a champion herself. |
